Our Story

Areia began between two shores. Our founder, Erna María, spent years moving between her native Iceland and Colombia — two landscapes that could not look more different, yet meet at the same point: the sand. Areia means "sand", and it is a reminder we keep close: beauty takes many forms, and it is always being reshaped.

Our designs draw on both worlds. From Iceland, colour that arrives quietly — moss and summer wildflowers, glacial light and the auroras. From Colombia, the gold and its living colour. Silver carries one register, gold vermeil the other; every collection moves between them.

Jewellery has always been how people mark what matters. Since the earliest civilisations we have used it to hold memory, express love, and tell our stories. Areia honours that tradition with pieces made for daily ritual — something you reach for without thinking, yet never without meaning.

What we can promise

Every piece is handmade in small batches from recycled 925 sterling silver. Each production lot is certified by our silver supplier, and the silver reaches us through a Responsible Jewellery Council Chain-of-Custody-certified supply chain. Selected designs are finished in gold vermeil.

Our jewellery is crafted by a women-led family workshop in Thailand, where women hold every management position and make up two thirds of the team. The workshop is independently audited under SMETA, the most widely used ethical trade audit framework — because commitments should be checked, not just declared.

Our packaging is recyclable and plastic-free. And when a piece has fulfilled its chapter with you, pass it forward — or let it be recycled into something new, so its story continues.
